Syrian issue to be discussed in Rome next week

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Italian capital, Rome, will host a meeting of the Group of Seven (G7), the Mini Group on Syria and other countries, to discuss the Syrian issue on June 28. 

The US, which is chairing the meeting, is represented by its Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, with the participation of 14 Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the G7 and Arab and regional countries. 

“Rome meeting will be the first event on Syria attended by the Biden administration. It is also the opportunity for Blinken to set the pace of his allies in the G7 and the region, as well as the opportunity for America’s test to Russia at the Security Council to extend the cross-border resolution,” the Saudi Asharq al-Awsat newspaper said.

The newspaper added that the meeting on Syria will not only include the “Mini Group” that includes America, Britain, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt, but that the American minister invited the foreign ministers of the G7 and the “Small Group”, in addition to Turkey, Qatar and the UN Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen. 

Pedersen will suggest “A new step-for-step approach between Moscow and its allies on the one hand and Washington and its allies on the other and the formation of an international-regional group comprised of permanent Security Council members and regional players,” according to the newspaper.
