Trump says U.S. Navy clears mines from Strait of Hormuz
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the U.S. Navy had removed or detonated all mines from international waters in the Strait of Hormuz, warning Iran against laying new ones.
“I have just been informed by the United States Navy that all mines have been removed and/or detonated from within the International Waters of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Trump said Iran had been notified that any ship or boat placing new mines would be “immediately and systematically destroyed.”
He added that the U.S. Space Force was monitoring “every square inch” of the strait and said a “Zero Tolerance” policy on mine placement was in effect. (Reuters)
The Strait of Hormuz is a key waterway for global energy supplies. Reuters reported that oil shipments through the strait stood at about 5 million barrels per day on Monday, down from more than 20 million barrels per day before the war. (Reuters)
