Argentinian documentary in Syria’s Qamishli tells role of music in war times
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Argentinian director, Pablo Tosco, screened a documentary film he directed in the city of Qamishli in northeast Syria, which tells the story of the survival of music and musicians during the war in Syria.
Tosco is a photojournalist and film maker whose work focuses on telling human stories and documenting the tragedies and suffering caused by migration, displacement and war.
In his film, Harmonia After the War, the director tried to show the impact of music on people in Syria to rebuild their lives in war conditions.
During showing his film in Qamishli, Tosco told North Press that he is trying, through his work, to show the extent to which music can create a healthy and safe place for children suffering from war.
The main character in the film is Ghani Mirzo, a musician from Raqqa, as well as Mustafa, a blind musician from Kobani, he added.
During his career, Tosco has accomplished several works, including The Migration of Sub-Saharan People in Search of a Better Future in Europe and The Syrian and Iraqi Conflict and its Impact on Neighboring Countries.
Tosco has won several awards, the most recent of which was the World Press Award 2021, for a photo he took of a woman on a small boat in Khor Umira Bay, summarizing the suffering of Yemeni women and their constant struggle to live.
