U.S. company to begin construction of ‘American City’ in Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An executive with U.S.-based AUG company told North Press on Monday that preparations are underway to begin implementing the “American City” project in Qamishli, northeastern Syria, within days.
Hozan Tingo, an AUG adviser and project manager for “American City,” said the company met with Qamishli Municipality on Sunday to finalize arrangements for the implementation phase.
“We have completed the main approval stages and all essential technical procedures,” Tingo said. “We are currently preparing the company’s headquarters.”
He added that company teams are expected to arrive in Qamishli in the coming days to begin work on the project, which he said would have a significant economic and developmental impact on the region.
Tingo indicated that the company began the necessary procedures after the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and completed the required steps over the past year and two months.
He pointed out that the AUG is independently handling matters related to the project, including land-related arrangements.
According to Tingo, the project aims to introduce a new model of urban development to the region, including modern architectural standards and upgraded infrastructure.
“Through our technical studies in Hasakah Governorate, we found an urgent need for this type of project in the region,” he said, adding that the company expects the project to succeed and contribute to modernizing the area.
Berivan Omar, head of Qamishli Municipality, told North Press that the project was first discussed in late 2025, when the company presented plans and designs for its implementation.
“We saw that the project would serve the city and provide job opportunities,” Omar said.
She added that the project includes new standards, including expanded green spaces and improved services, which she said could help reduce congestion in Qamishli.
Omar noted that the company presented its plans and approvals during Monday’s meeting with the municipality and is now preparing to begin construction in the coming days.
