Mine explosion kills pro-Turkish militants near Syria’s Sere Kaniye
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, at least ten militants of a pro-Turkish armed group were killed and wounded in an explosion in the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in the Hasakah countryside, northeastern Syria.
An informed source told North Press that a landmine exploded in a military vehicle belonging to the pro-Turkish Hamza Division, while its members were passing near the village of al-Arisha in the countryside of Sere Kaniye.
The explosion resulted in the killing of three members and the wounding of seven, though the true toll is still unknown due to the serious injuries of those transferred to the city’s hospital.
Hassan al-Assaf, of al-Khatab Brigade faction, was found strangled to death in a headquarters of the faction in the Suluk region, west of Sere Kaniye, a special source told North Press.
This came after three days of clashes between the Badr Martyrs’ and al-Mawali Brigades in the countryside of Sere Kaniye, which resulted in causalities including civilians.
The city of Sere Kaniye has been witnessing the continuation of the security chaos amid the armed groups militants’ fighting for influence over the region, in light of the deteriorating living and service conditions of the residents of the region.
Late in 2019, Turkey and its affiliated military groups took control of Sere Kaniye following an attack that caused the displacement of thousands of its residents.
