Iraqi Foreign Minister discusses Syrian war with his Belgian counterpart
ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed with his Belgian counterpart, issues related to security and stability in Iraq and Syria, especially Hawl camp and families of the Islamic State ISIS.
This came in a phone call which Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein received from his Belgian counterpart, Sophie Wilmès.
Hussein thanked the Belgian government for its stances in support of Iraq in its war against ISIS terrorist organization.
He called for the importance of continuing support until the ideology that produced these terrorist groups is eliminated.
Hussein stressed the importance of strengthening work and uniting international efforts to find a political solution to the war in Syria due to its direct impact on security and regional stability, according to the ministry’s statement.
In his phone call, the Iraqi minister called for addressing the humanitarian situation of families in Hawl Camp in Syria, preventing ISIS from penetrating the camps, spreading its terrorist ideology, and reorganizing its ranks.
The two ministers also discussed the elections which are scheduled to take place on October 10.
He pointed out that Iraq sent a message to the UN Security Council to provide support and send observers to hold the elections on time.
The two ministers also discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, while stressing the need to work to reduce tension and achieve calm in the region, and to avoid escalation that will not serve any party.
For her part, the Belgian minister offered her condolences to the government and people of Iraq for the killing of a number of citizens as a result of the terrorist acts that have targeted Iraq recently.
She expressed the solidarity of the Belgian government and people with Iraq in its war against terrorism.
She referred to the Belgian government’s decision to send a new mission to Iraq to determine the fate of ISIS families and children.
