Iraqi Foreign Ministry summons Turkish embassy Chargé d’Affairs handing him protest note
ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Monday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Turkish embassy Chargé d’Affairs and handed him a protest note in response to continuous violations.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its condemnation and strong dissatisfaction with the Turkish Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar’s presence inside Iraqi territory without coordination or prior approval by the competent authorities.
Akar met Turkish forces which are “illegally presence in the Iraqi territories.”
The statement condemned the Turkish Minister of Interior regarding Turkey’s intention to establish a permanent military base in northern Iraq.
“The Iraqi government definitely rejects the continuing violations against Iraqi sovereignty and the inviolability of Iraqi lands and airspace by the Turkish military forces,” senior undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nizar al-Khairallah said, according to the statement.
He pointed out that the continuation of such an approach is inconsistent with friendly relations, good neighborliness, and relevant international laws and norms.
The Iraqi official stressed the need to remind the neighbor, Turkey, that relying on unilateral military solutions cannot be the effective way to solve common security challenges.
