Al-Kadhimi discusses coordination between Iraqi forces, Peshmerga forces to fight ISIS
ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – The Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi ordered to direct sting operations against Islamic State (ISIS) moves through security coordination between Iraqi forces including the Peshmerga.
“The Prime Minister and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa al-Kadhimi chaired a broad-scale meeting between federal security apparatuses and Peshmerga forces with the attendance of the Ministers of Interior, Defense, and Finance,” al-Kadhimi Office said in a statement.
“During the meeting they discussed the developments of the security events that Iraq witnessed during the past hours and security plans to counter and stop security violations in order to grant stability and safety throughout the country,” the statement added.
The meeting also discussed the coordination between different federal security forces and Peshmerga forces especially in the joint areas.
“Security forces received several instructions by al-Kadhimi including the activation of the intelligence and security effort, as well as sting operations against terrorist ISIS sleeper cells’ moves and destroy their strongholds,” the statement noted.
On May 2, Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, vice president of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, visited west Kirkuk and the village of Qabshi after being exposed to an attack by ISIS militants the day before, targeting Peshmerga posts and leaving casualties and wounded.
