Iraqi President meets Kurdistan Region’s top officials in Erbil

ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Thursday, the President of the Iraqi Republic, Barham Salih, held a series of meetings with the three presidencies in the Kurdistan Region, and two separate meetings with the leaders of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, in Erbil.

Salih arrived in the capital of Kurdistan Region, Erbil, on Wednesday to discuss the outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil. 

Salih met the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani and they discussed the latest political developments in Iraq and Kurdistan, according to a statement by the presidency of Kurdistan Region.

The meeting touched on “the issue of early elections, and how to create a suitable ground for the electoral process.”

Early legislative elections are scheduled to be held in October.

The statement added that the two presidents discussed the need for dialogue and overcoming conflicts.

Prior the meeting, the Iraqi president met the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, and the Political Bureau of the party, and also met with the Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani.

The meetings focused on “common issues between Erbil and Baghdad, especially the budget issue, early elections, the future of the political process in Federal Iraq, and other issues of common interest.”

Salih also visited the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and met with the leaders there.
