Two NGO workers survived assassination attempt in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR ,Syria (North Press) – On Monday, two workers of a local non-governmental organization survived an assassination attempt by unknown assailants, during their official working hours in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

Ahmad al-Askar and Salamah al-Gharb, from the town of al-Meheimida, in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, were subjected to an assassination attempt, on a main road in the western countryside, a local source told North Press.  

Both of them work for the media office of a local non-governmental organization operating in Deir ez-Zor.

Unidentified persons, riding a motorcycle, fired at a transport vehicle, where both of the workers were in, according to the source.  

Commenting on the incident, an official of Deir ez-Zor Civil Administration said that they are working with the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and in coordination with tribal sheikhs, to secure protection for civil society organizations operating in the area.

On April 17, two workers of a non-governmental organization, Watin Muhammad Ali and Muhammad Rashid al-Meheimid, were killed after they were shot by unidentified persons in the town of al-Shuhail in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside has been recently witnessing assassinations carried out against SDF members, employees of the civil administration, tribal figures, and civilians in the area, where ISIS sleepr cells are accused of committing them.
