Residents of al-Tai neighborhood return home in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) –  A North Press correspondent said on Monday that families recently entered al-Tai neighborhood in Qamishli, northeastern Syria, after the expulsion of the pro-government National Defense Forces (NDF).

The correspondent added that the first batch included residents who returned through al-Wehda roundabout, adjacent to al-Tai neighborhood in the city.

On Monday morning, a security source in the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) said that the road is safe for the return of al-Tai neighborhood residents, after combing it completely and expelling the pro-government NDF gunmen from it.

North Press published photos of buses from the municipality of Qamishli waiting to return civilians in Basil Roundabout.

On Sunday, Asayish said that it had reached a permanent truce after days of violent clashes between it and the National Defense groups in the neighborhood.

On the night of Sunday – Monday, violent clashes erupted between Asayish forces and NDF after the latter targeted Asayish sites in the vicinity of the Helko neighborhood, south Qamishli, hours after the declaration of a permanent truce.

On Sunday, a negotiating source said in the recent days’ talks in Qamishli that Asayish will remain in the points they took within al-Tai neighborhood.

The Asayish statement stated that the truce, which was guaranteed by the Syrian Democratic Forces and mediated by Russian forces, is linked to “the absence of any violations by the National Defense Militia towards our forces.”

Russian military police and Asayish will conduct patrols within the neighborhood, according to the source.
