Asayish announces permanent ceasefire in Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) announced that they reached a permanent ceasefire after violent clashes that began on April 20 between them and the pro-regime National Defense (NDF) militia in al-Tai neighborhood in Syria’s Qamishli.
It added that the ceasefire, which was guaranteed by the Syrian Democratic Forces and Russian forces, is conditional upon the absence of any violations by the NDF towards Asayish.
On their Twitter account, the Asayish added that “residents of al-Tai neighborhood who left their homes due to escalation will be assisted by our forces to return to their homes.”
On their Facebook page, the Asayish’s media center reported that residents of al-Tai can return starting from 8 AM Monday, April 26th.
Clashes between the two groups began on April 20, when NDF gunmen attacked an Asayish checkpoint at al-Wehda Roundabout, in Qamishli’s al-Tai neighborhood. A child and a sheikh who attempted to mediate the clashes were killed by NDF gunfire, according to local sources.
