Russian officers accompanied by Asayish members patrol in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Russian officers, representatives of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and others from the Syrian government checked the contact lines in al-Tai neighborhood, southern Qamishli city, northeastern Syria, hours after the expiration of a temporary truce.

The Russian patrol coincided with flying Russian helicopters over the city.

The Russian military vehicles roamed the center of the neighborhood near Abbas Allawi School, the central water tank, and the contact lines between the Asayish and the pro-Syrian government National Defense Forces (NDF).

This comes after three days of meetings between representatives of the Asayish and the Syrian government to find a solution to the ongoing clashes between the Asayish and the NDF.

On Sunday morning, co-chair of the Interior Board of Jazira region, Samar Hussein, said that the negotiations are still underway with the mediation of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Russian forces to reach an agreement that ends the security tension in Qamishli.

She added that the basic condition of the agreement is the removal of the NDF gunmen from al-Tai neighborhood, where they had “turned into a center of corruption and a shelter for those fleeing the law, smugglers and drug traffickers.”

Since April 20, al-Tai neighborhood in Qamishli has witnessed clashes that began after the NDF gunmen targeted one of the Asayish points near al-Wahda Roundabout, which resulted in “the martyrdom of an Asayish member,” according to a statement.
