Seminar held on constitutional process in Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Berchav Organization held a seminar in the city of Manbij in the presence of representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, women’s and human rights organizations, and independents.

It is the fourth session in a series of seminars conducted by the organization to discuss the Syrian constitution and the Constitutional Committee.

Farouk Haji Mustafa, Executive Director of Berchav Organization, told North Press that the constitution is the foundation for building the future of Syria and all the communities that live there.

Mustafa added: “The cause of the Syrian crisis is the constitution, so we’ve started to hold a series of seminars with the aim of incorporating the views of local communities to develop the constitutional process.”

“We seek to involve all elites in society and to communicate their voices and ideas to the Constitutional Committee to strengthen their role in shaping the country’s future,” Mustafa said.

The organization has held three similar seminars in Derik, Rimelan and Kobani. It will continue to hold six more, according to Haji Mustafa.

“Holding such symposia is an urgent need at this stage,” Muhammad Ali al—Abo, a jurist and a participant in the session, told North Press.

Al-Abo added, “We in northeast Syria have been excluded from the Constitutional Committee, and this is unfair.”

“The Constitutional Committee will remain incomplete as long as it does not represent all Syrian regions, including the regions of northeast Syria, which make up a third of the population,” Abo added.

“If the international community agrees to resolve the Syrian crisis, the Constitutional Committee must be reformed, and there should be a fair representation of all spectrums of the Syrian people,” Abo said.

The Syrian Constitutional Committee concluded its fourth round in Geneva at the end of January this year in failure, without setting another date for the next round.
