Turkish forces deployed in preparation for observation point in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces deployed intensively on Thursday in the village of Ain al-Beida on the Syrian-Turkish border in the western countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria.
Turkish forces deployed dozens of solders and armored vehicles in Ain al-Beida village west of Idlib on Thursday morning, local sources told North Press.
The deployment comes as part of a reconnaissance operation for the Turkish army in preparation for establishing a Turkish military post in the village, the sources added.
Turkish moves were limited to the strategic and high areas in the region.
The sources indicated that the deployment coincided with the closure of some main and secondary roads in the village, in addition to careful inspections of cars and pedestrians.
At the end of January, unknown assailants targeted a Turkish security checkpoint in Abu al-Zubair area near the town of Mhambel, west of Idlib. Two members were seriously wounded, one of whom succumbed to his wounds.
Since its military intervention in Syria, Turkish forces have established more than 60 military posts and bases the governorates of Idlib, Aleppo, Hama and Latakia in the northwest of Syria.
