Locals burn refugees’ tents at Syrian refugee camp in Lebanon

BEIRUT, Lebanon (North Press) – A Saturday dispute between Lebanese and Syrian workers in Miniyeh, in Lebanon’s north, resulted in a number of Lebanese locals burning tents belonging to Syrian refugees.

The Lebanese National News Agency said that a dispute occurred between a person from al-Mir family and some Syrian workers working in Miniyeh, which resulted in fistfights which left three wounded.

Young men from the Lebanese al-Mir family intervened and set fire to some Syrian refugees’ tents in Miniyeh in northern Lebanon, according to the agency.

Activists on social media circulated videos showing the massive fire that devastated the refugee camp and left hundreds homeless.

The Lebanese Agency indicated that Civil Defense vehicles came to the scene and worked to extinguish the fire, and a force from the Lebanese army and internal security forces intervened to control the situation.

Last year, a convoy comprising of hundreds of Syrian refugees from several Lebanese regions in the south, north, Beqaa, and Beirut entered Syria.

This exit came after Syrian refugees in Lebanon were forced to demolish their concrete homes.
