Turkey evacuates military post east of Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces started its military observatory post in Tel Tokan, which the Turkish soldiers started dismantling in mid-December, on Saturday.

Dozens of military vehicles left Tel Tokan military post, in eastern Idlib within the Syrian government-held areas, and headed to the opposition-held areas in Idlib, a military source told North Press.

The source confirmed that Turkish forces transferred their equipment and soldiers to a newly established Turkish post in Afes town east of Idlib.

After Syrian government forces took control of areas in the northern countryside of Hama and southern countryside of Idlib, 12 Turkish posts in the de-escalation zone fell under siege.

Within two months, Turkish military forces evacuated 15 posts besieged by the government forces in Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama, according to the source.

The end of this year will witness the evacuation of all Turkish points in government-held areas, according to an arrangement with the Russians, a field source within the government forces told North Press

The Russian-Turkish agreement in 2017 and its additional protocol in March 2020 provide for a halt to the military actions in the governorate of Idlib and its surroundings.

Turkey has established more than 60 posts and military bases since the Turkish intervention in Syria, while reports stated that it sent more than 12,000 Turkish soldiers and dozens of military vehicles to the area.
