Syrian Democratic Council to hold nationwide conference for Jazira and Euphrates Regions

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Amina Omar, said on Sunday evening that they are about to hold a national conference that will lead to ” drastic changes ” in the structure of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

Omar added to North Press that the conference will be a milestone, as different segments of society with different intellectual and political orientations will participate in it.

She indicated that the “national conference for peoples of Jazira and Euphrates regions” will be followed by elections for the Autonomous Administration and the possibility of setting a new social contract for the administration and making a change in its structure.

“A monitoring committee will be elected during the conference, and its task will be to follow up on the implementation of the conference’s decisions, which will be binding,” she added.

The conference comes after 13 symposia held by SDC in different regions of northeastern Syria.

The symposia focused on two main axes. The first was the historical relations between the peoples of the region and their role in building the future of Syria, and the importance of preserving the Autonomous Administration project and the challenges it has faced since its establishment.

The other axis included the intra-Syrian dialogue, whether with the Syrian opposition or the Syrian government, as well as the intra-Kurdish dialogue.

It is assumed that a national conference for the peoples of Jazira and the Euphrates will be held at the end of this month.

Omar, expressed her optimism, saying, “We insist on change for the better; SDC is interested in hearing different opinions and considers the conference that will be held late this month an opportunity for that.”
