Unknown persons kill security members, government soldiers in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Four members of the government military and security forces were killed on Sunday by unknown persons in three separate incidents in the countryside of Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.

A source told North Press that unknown persons killed two soldiers from the Fourth Division in the town of Muzayrib, a member of the Military Security in the town of Tasil, and another from the Air Force Intelligence in the town of Jasim.

He added that the three operations took place simultaneously, although they took place in the eastern and western countryside of Daraa, where local armed groups are believed to be behind the operation.

The countryside of Daraa Governorate has been witnessing escalating tension since the beginning of last month, when government forces stormed the town of Karak and besieged Daraa al-Balad, carrying out arrests there.

The source indicated that it is likely that there will be retaliatory operations against government forces after a series of arrests and assassinations carried out by government forces against activists, military leaders and notables in the area.

This coincided with the killing and capture of members of the security and military forces of the government in two areas, that were carried out by former groups of factions that conducted settlements with the government through Russian mediation.

On November 13, the Fourth Division and Air Force Intelligence withdrew from the town of Karak in the eastern countryside of Daraa, after an agreement between government forces and the Eighth Brigade of the Fifth Corps under the auspices of a Russian guarantee.

The source said that the governorate is witnessing popular fear and rejection of the possibility of government forces returning to use repression that caused the outbreak of protests and developed into the Syrian civil war.
