The Syrian pound is witnessing a state of instability that has gradually deteriorated since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011, where the national currency is subjected to heavy losses against foreign currencies whose exchange rate has risen in the Syrian markets and banks.

The exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the U.S. dollar in the last three days has reached 700 Syrian pound (Lira) against one dollar, a situation that resulted in a rise in various consumer goods, which are considered essential.

The constant rise of the dollar against the Syrian pound weighs heavily on citizens, who pay the costs and the heaviest taxes.

Adel Mamou, an owner of a gold shop in the town of Amude, said that the rise in the dollar exchange rate against the Syrian pound is related to the instability of the political situation in Syria, pointing out that people are the biggest losers in this rise due to the rise of the consumer goods prices.

Zubair Haj Younis noted that the rise of the dollar exchange rate significantly affects the income per capita, in addition, individuals have limited income, and they are employees and their salary does not exceed $50 per month, stressing that the Syrian crisis and the political instability is causing the dollar exchange rate to rise.

Younis pointed out that the continuous rise of the dollar against the Syrian pound weighs heavily on the citizens, where the citizen is unable to buy the essential needs, pointing out that there are no signs of stability in the exchange rate.

Zubair Ibrahim another resident of Amude said: "The high prices and the change from time to time pushes people not to believe the prices of the materials we sell," noting that the goods that are not sold and remain in the stores cause great losses for the owners.

Ziour Haj Yousif, another resident of Amude pointed out that the livelihood has become difficult due to the high prices of all materials, pointing out that the continued rise will lead to economic disaster.

Mohammed Omar Sheikhmous pointed out that the rise of the dollar exchange rate has a direct impact on the lives of all citizens, pointing out that the rise is linked to the economy of the country, which has been in crisis and war for nine years.

According to Sheikhmous, the Syrian people deal with the Syrian pound in the purchase of materials, while traders deal in dollars to make matters worse, stressing that if dealing with only one currency will reduce the burdens of the Syrian citizens.
