Syrian government forces re-control two areas east of Idlib with intensive Russian air support

After fierce battles with the armed opposition groups accompanied by fierce aerial bombardment by the Russian forces supporting Syrian government forces, the latter regained control over two areas in eastern Idlib countryside. North-Press reporter briefed that Syrian government forces regained control of Surouj and Ijaz areas in the eastern countryside of Idlib, following intensive shelling by Syrian forces and counter-attacks resulted in taking back the two areas.

The armed opposition groups have taken control over the towns and villages of Ijaz, Surouj, Istblat and Rasm al-Ward, after a violent attack carried out against Syrian government forces, as taking advantage of the bad weather and heavy fog.

While Syrian government forces, backed by Russian aerial bombardment, began a massive military campaign to recapture areas it has lost to militant opposition groups. After several failed attempts, Syrian government forces regained control over the towns of Ijaz and Surouj in eastern Idlib today morning.

Syrian forces continue to launch attacks as they seek to regain control over the villages of Istablat and Rasm al-Ward, which they had also lost, as the bad weather is impeding their attempts.

Villages and towns in Idlib’s southern and south-eastern countryside have witnessed heavy displacement waves over the past three days, as a result of the increased military operations and the recent escalation of the Syrian government forces. Thousands of people have been displaced to the bordering areas in northern Syria with Turkey, in a scene described as the second largest displacement movement since last April.
