Amid Turkish mobilization, SDF calls on international partners to abide by armistice agreements and UN resolutions

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) called on the US, Russia, and Turkey to abide by the ceasefire agreements in northeastern Syria in conjunction with a UN resolution adopted by the UN Security Council to stop armed conflicts around the world.

SDF spokesperson Kino Gabriel told North Press that “there was Turkish mobilization in several locations in areas controlled by Turkish forces in northeastern Syria; this constituted a threat [and] we take it seriously.”

Gabriel pointed out that "these threats come at a time when the UN is calling for a comprehensive and global ceasefire, while these Turkish moves undermine the efforts of the world powers and the UN at the level global conflict.”

"We are working with our partners in the region to continue to provide protection and support stability in the regions of northeastern Syria," Gabriel added.

Gabriel called on Turkey and the SDF’s international partners in a reference to the Global Coalition forces, the US, and Russia to abide by the agreements signed between them, especially the Russian-Turkish agreement and the US-Turkish agreement.

According to reports, during the recent period, Turkey mobilized its military forces to the countryside of the city of Tel Abyad in northern Syria, without clarifying the reason behind these reinforcements.

SDF commander-in-chief Mazloum Abdi said that Turkey continues to violate international law, and the agreements 17 and 22 of October 2019, under the auspices of US Vice President Mike Pence and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a tweet in late June.

On October 17, the US announced that it reached an agreement with Turkey on a ceasefire in northeastern Syria, followed a few days later by a Russian-Turkish agreement for a comprehensive ceasefire in the region.
