VBIED explodes in Bab, Syria

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) exploded in the city of Bab in the eastern countryside of Aleppo on Saturday, resulting in a number of injuries.

The car targeted one of the more densely populated areas in the city, as the explosion occurred near the fuel market, according to a field source.

The source told North Press that a VBIED exploded on Saturday morning near Bushi Mosque in Bab city, injuring four.

On June 11, several civilians were injured in the city market due to an explosive device that detonated in the middle of the market.

The city of Bab is witnessing a state of security chaos, widespread theft, and kidnapping in light of the inability of Turkish-backed armed groups to take control of the city.

Bab is a strategic city in northern Syria. It was captured by ISIS in 2013 and has been experiencing intensive fighting since 2016.

As a result of Operation Euphrates Shield in August 2016 – March 2017 and Operation Olive Branch in March 2018, Turkish Armed Forces and their affiliated opposition groups managed to take control of the cities of Jarablus, Bab, Azaz, and Afrin in northern Syria.
