Kurdish Red Crescent conducting an awareness campaign for NE Syria IDPs

The Kurdish Red Crescent in north-eastern Syria has conducted an awareness and education campaign for the internally displaced people in Newroz camp, near the town of Derik (Malikiya), northeastern Syria.

Janda Khalifa, a psychosocial supporter of the Kurdish Red Crescent, told North-Press that the activity was about delivering lectures on reproductive health and some kind of diseases spread among the population, and how psychological stress affects women with breast cancer. The activity included dances, competitions and the distribution of gifts and toys for children. She pointed out that they organize activities and events as such from time to another.

While an IDP from the region of Afrin, Samira Mahmoud, thanked the Kurdish Red Crescent for organizing the event, which she described as "good", by saying: "Nevertheless, the space in the camp is tight."

The Kurdish Red Crescent is active in the areas of the Autonomous Administration in north and north-east of Syria, where it is concentrated in the field of primary care in terms of (shelter – food – health) and setting of development programs in (health – environmental – socio – economic – educational) fields.

The Kurdish Red Crescent's activities also include transporting the wounded, exchanging prisoners of war, and reuniting and caring for the affected families.

It is noteworthy that 44 displaced families from the Ras al-Ain (Sere-Kaniye), Hasakah and Tal Abyad (Gre Spi) live in Newroz camp, in addition to IDPs from Afrin and Kobani, north of Aleppo.
