Displaced People of Afrin Spend Their Second Eid in Shahba IDP Centers
For the second Eid al-Fitr, the displaced Kurdish people of Syria’s north-west region of Afrin hope to leave the miserable situation in IDP centers in Shahba region, northern Aleppo, and to return to their homes.
North Press reporter spoke to some residents of “Sardam” IDP center, where displaced people of Afrin keep expressing their concerns about the bitter situation since their displacement from their hometown in 2018.
Muhammed Ahmed, 71 years-old-man from Afrin, expressed his hopes of a close return to his home: “This is our second Eid, which we are spending away from Afrin, we cannot celebrate the Eid while we are far from our homes, the day we return to our homes, that will be our real Eid.”
While celebrating circumstances was limited only to traditional visits, Nuri Mustafa, 53 years-old-man, told North-Press:
“All the residents of the IDP center are like one family, we’ve just congratulated each other with visits between our tents, and we try to bring some joy into the hearts of our children, until the return day to Afrin through Mount Al-Ahlam, that day will be our real Eid.”
Another “Dastan” IDP center resident, Hamza Rashid Ahmed, a 70-year-old, described the humanitarian situation during Eid days as he said: “There are no humanitarian or relief organizations that have provided any aids for the Eid.”
The displaced people of the Kurdish region of Afrin stay basically in five IDP centers in Shahba region, northern Aleppo countryside, amid harsh living conditions and the complete absence of the role of most humanitarian and relief organizations that keep ignoring their sufferings, according to the residents of the mentioned centers.
The Autonomous Administration of Northern Syria, also known now as The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES), had established the “Sardam” IDP center on March 2018, soon after the Turkish military and the pro-Turkish Syrian Islamist militias’ assault on the majority-populated Kurdish region of Afrin in north-western Syria, the military operation led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Syrian-Kurdish civilians to the neighboring Shahba region, where more than 100,000 IDP’s reside in the region, according to Kurdish Red Crescent.
