Russian military police officer Vadim Regenkov told reporters that the Russian military police are exploring new routes for their patrols in northern Syria.

A Russian news agency quoted the officer saying: "The military police are exploring the places, the mentality of the locals, and the roads," adding that without road exploration, it will be difficult to conduct patrols.

He explained that the reconnaissance group consists of three armored vehicles, and that the new road being explored is relatively small, about 50km, and passes through dozens of villages.

"For security reasons, it is important to work on main and alternative patrol routes," he said.

Since October 23, 2019, Russian military police forces have been carrying out their tasks on the Syrian-Turkish borders, specifically conducting patrols, according to Sochi Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed between Russia and Turkey on October 22.
