The US House of Representatives overwhelmingly endorsed a draft resolution on Wednesday condemning President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the US troops from northeastern Syria, paving the way for the Turkish offensive on Syria’s Democratic Forces (SDF). A total of 354 deputies voted in favor of the draft resolution, while 60 voted against it after dozens of the Republican lawmakers joined the Democratic majority in favor of the draft.
As the U.S. pressure goes on the Turkish side, a spokesman of the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed on Wednesday that the Turkish president would meet Vice President Mike Pence during his visit to Ankara, hours after Erdogan told the reporters that he wouldn’t meet the U.S. delegation.
The Turkish spokesman explained Erdogan’s stance later, stressing that the Turkish president plans to meet Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday.
Members of the Congress met with President Trump after the vote by an overwhelming majority to condemn his decision in a Democratic-Republican agreement, which is the first of its kind since Trump’s election. Trump’s meeting with members of Congress was short and controversial, where the Democrats have accused Trump of insulting Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic leader in Congress, where it was reported that he told her she might like ISIS because some of its fighters are communists!
After the meeting, Pelosi said; Trump was collapsed during his meeting with us because the majority of the Republicans opposed his decision, and perhaps it is sad to say that Trump is sick and we should pray for him.
While Lindsay Graham wrote on Wednesday; a catastrophe is about to happen regarding our national security because of Trump’s decision.
Leader of the Republican majority in the Senate, Mitch McConnell opened a news conference on Wednesday with the message “Thanks for the Kurds”.
McConnell said: “I want to express my gratitude to the Kurds. They were great fighters”, adding: “We have built a wonderful alliance with them, and I’m sorry because we got here”.
