About 80k people to get out of Idlib, Chief of the Russian Center for reconciliation

”Up to 80,000 people are ready to depart Idlib’s de-escalation zone”, the Chief of the Russian Center for reconciliation in Syria, Major General Victor Kopeshshyn.

During a meeting held on Monday by the Russian-Syrian Joint Committee to organize the return of Syrian refugees, General Kopeshshyn said: About 40,000 to 80,000 displaced people are expected to be ready to leave the de-escalation zone”, he also added: “The necessary places were prepared to receive them in a temporary accommodation centers in the governorates of Hama, Homs and Deir ez-Zor”.

Kopeshshyn pointed out that “To ensure the exit of civilians from Idlib, an additional crossing-point in the town of Souran has been opened since 27 May”.

The Russian General clarified that the capacity of the crossing-point is “up to 1,000 people, and 50 vehicles per day, and there is no displacement movement currently.”

The United Nations has earlier expressed concerns over the deteriorating situation in the de-escalation zones in Syria and the flow of the Syrian refugees to the northern borders with Turley.

While, the United Nations Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Syrian crisis Panos Moumtzis said, “Our fear is if this continues, and if the numbers continue rising, and if the conflict intensifies, that we could see really hundreds of thousands, a million or two, heading towards the northern borders with Turkey.”
