Over 700 displaced Sere Kaniye families set to return home in Hasakah countryside
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Preparations are underway to return around 725 displaced Kurdish families from camps in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria, to the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), Tel Tamr and Zirgan (Abu Rasin) this week, an official said on Saturday.
The spokesperson for the Sere Kaniye Displaced Persons Committee, Mahmoud Jamil, told North Press that the initial number of families included in the return plan was 1,035, but some families have not yet completed the procedures required for their return.
He said the committee is awaiting completion of coordination with the presidential delegation and the committee responsible for overseeing the return of displaced people to the city, particularly regarding the security situation inside Sere Kaniye, “to ensure that what happened during the first group of returnees is not repeated.”
“For now, during this week, around 725 families will be returned to the countryside only,” Jamil said.
“We are keen to coordinate with all relevant authorities and security bodies to ensure a safe and dignified return for the displaced,” the committee spokesperson said, adding that the current return procedures cover security and logistical arrangements, transportation, and financial compensation for families.
