SDF Commander welcomes Syria’s removal from terrorism sponsors list

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander Mazloum Abdi welcomed the decision to remove Syria from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, calling it an important step toward correcting international relations.

In a post on X, Abdi said the decision “opens the door to a new phase of stability, development, and efforts toward a better future for our country.”

He also described the decision as “an achievement in realizing the aspirations of our people for security, peace, and prosperity.”

The U.S. State Department formally rescinded Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism on Monday, Aug. 24, following the completion of a congressional review. Syria had been on the list since 1979. (U.S. Department of State)
