Abdi remarks mark shift toward SDF integration – al-Hilali

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Ahmad al-Hilali, spokesperson for the presidential team overseeing the implementation of the January 29 agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and deputy governor of Hasakah, described SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi’s remarks on completing the group’s military, security and administrative integration into Syrian state institutions as a significant and positive development on Friday.

Speaking to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), al-Hilali characterized Abdi’s remarks as a shift from a phase of understandings toward practical steps to implement the integration process within Syrian state institutions.

The next phase, he noted, will focus on translating the announced positions into concrete measures, including unifying administrative institutions and references and restoring state institutions’ full authority, in a move he said would strengthen unified decision-making and preserve Syrian sovereignty.

The approach calls for ending what al-Hilali described as a state of duality and parallel entities, paving the way for a model based on one state, one army and unified institutions under the authority of Syrian state institutions.

At the same time, al-Hilali stressed that completing the process would require more than political statements, with implementation depending on steps taken on the ground. Recent positions and previous measures, he added, indicate that the process is moving toward that goal.

The political announcement represents an important step, but does not mean that all administrative, security and military arrangements have been completed immediately, he noted, distinguishing between announcing an integration decision and completing the arrangements required to put it into practice.

The work now focuses on turning the announced decisions into a fully integrated institutional framework, with Syrian state institutions serving as the reference for managing the country’s affairs.
