Japan to lift sanctions on more Syrian entities

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Japan plans to lift economic sanctions on more Syrian entities starting next month, Japanese government sources said on Wednesday, as Tokyo seeks to strengthen economic cooperation with Syria.

The planned measure is expected to include additional Syrian entities currently subject to Japan’s economic sanctions, according to Japanese government sources cited by Yomiuri Shimbun.

The move comes as Japan seeks to expand its economic engagement with Syria and support reconstruction efforts in the country.

Japan previously eased some sanctions on Syria, including measures targeting Syrian financial institutions, as part of efforts to facilitate economic activity and reconstruction.

The Japanese government has not yet publicly disclosed the full list of entities that will be removed from its sanctions measures.
