Syria says 22,721 displaced families return from Idlib camps
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor said on Monday that 22,721 displaced families have returned from camps in Idlib to their areas of origin in Hama, Aleppo, Idlib, Homs and other governorates since the beginning of 2026.
The ministry said 22,721 families had returned as part of ongoing voluntary return efforts coordinated among authorities involved in the process.
A new return convoy set off on Sunday carrying about 217 families from camps in northern Syria to their areas of origin in the Idlib and Hama countryside and Damascus, according to the ministry.
The ministry said the returns are part of ongoing government efforts to support the return of displaced people to their areas of origin and promote stability in local communities.
It said the process is being carried out under the government’s vision of a “Syria without camps” and in accordance with Decree No. 59, which concerns rehabilitating affected areas and creating suitable conditions for residents to return to their places of origin.
