New convoy of Afrin displaced families set to return to Aleppo countryside

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A new convoy carrying displaced families from Afrin is scheduled to depart on Wednesday from northeastern Syria toward their original homes in the Aleppo countryside, according to a source from the Afrin Displaced Persons Council said on Tuesday.

The source told North Press that the convoy will include approximately 1,700 families.

According to the source, around 1,100 displaced families currently residing in the city of Derik (al-Malikiyah) and nearly 650 families in Qamishli city are expected to return to Afrin.

This will be the eighth convoy of Afrin displaced persons departing from Hasakah Governorate back to their hometowns.

The first convoy was organized in March and included 400 displaced families leaving Qamishli for Afrin.

The returns come amid ongoing efforts to facilitate the voluntary movement of displaced residents back to areas in northern Aleppo from which they were uprooted during previous phases of the Syrian conflict.
