Presidential integration team says detainees to be released Tuesday
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Ahmad al-Hilali, spokesperson for the presidential team overseeing the integration file, said on Monday that a new group of detainees and prisoners will be released on Tuesday as part of ongoing arrangements related to recent security developments in northern Syria.
In a statement to North Press, al-Hilali said, “A new batch of detainees and prisoners will be released tomorrow, Tuesday.”
He added that the measure will include individuals connected to the recent events and clashes that occurred in several areas of northern Syria. According to al-Hilali, the releases will continue over the coming days.
“We will release everyone who had a connection to the recent events and clashes that took place in several regions of northern Syria,” he said, noting that all detainees will be freed gradually in the coming days.
Al-Hilali also stated that a prisoner exchange process is expected to take place on Tuesday as part of the same arrangements.
Responding to a question about reopening the road linking Ras al-Ain (Sere Kaniye) and Tel Abyad, and the possibility of allowing displaced residents to return, al-Hilali said the road could reopen within two days.
He explained that security arrangements are currently underway before the reopening, including addressing security concerns and removing possible landmines that may be present along the route.
“There are security arrangements for that, including certain security concerns and work to remove mines that may be spread along this road,” al-Hilali said.
He added that once the roads reopen, displaced people and those forced to leave their homes will be able to return to their towns and villages, whether from Ras al-Ain, Tel Abyad, or other areas.
Ras al-Ain ( Sere Kaniye) and Tel Abyad witnessed large-scale displacement following the Turkish-led military operation in northern Syria in 2019, after which many residents moved to areas across northeast Syria.
