Two attacks target government forces in Deir ez-Zor countryside

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen carried out on Saturday night two separate attacks targeting government forces in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the General Security in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire with a machine gun on a General Security military post near the entrance of al-Duwair village in the southeastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The attack triggered a brief clash between the two sides, forcing the assailants to flee the area. The incident resulted in material damage only, the source said.

In a separate incident, unknown gunmen targeted a General Security military vehicle with an explosive device while it was heading toward the security headquarters in Ayyash village, north of Deir ez-Zor city, according to the military source.

The explosion caused material damage but no casualties.

The source added that General Security patrols imposed a security cordon around the two towns and arrested several individuals suspected of involvement in the attacks.
