Three Killed, others injured in landmine blast in Deir ez-Zor countryside

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Three people were killed and others injured on Friday in a landmine explosion from war remnants in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

The explosion occurred in an area contaminated with unexploded ordnance left over from years of armed conflict in the region.

Dozens of people in Syria lose their lives on a monthly basis due to war remnants, with the majority of victims being children, as a result of the widespread contamination following 14 years of warfare in the country.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights has documented 996 incidents caused by war remnants as of February 12, with Deir ez-Zor governorate topping the list with 1,798 victims since December 2024.
