Gunmen target Asayish Checkpoint in Deir Ez-Zor countryside
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces (Asayish) announced on Tuesday that one of their checkpoints in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor was attacked by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle.
In a statement, the Asayish said that at 11:00 a.m. local time, assailants opened direct fire on the al-Atal checkpoint in the city of Busayrah. The attack resulted in the injury of a woman who was near the site. She was immediately transferred to hospital for treatment, and her condition was reported as stable. No injuries were recorded among the checkpoint personnel.
The Asayish confirmed that its units responded swiftly by dispatching a security patrol to the area. Investigations and search operations were launched to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The Asayish, operating under the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), plays a central role in maintaining security and stability across the region. Its checkpoints are positioned to monitor movement and prevent infiltration by armed groups, particularly in areas vulnerable to attacks by sleeper cells.
