AANES calls for immediate halt to attacks In Aleppo neighborhoods
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) called on Tuesday for an immediate end to attacks, violations, and the ongoing siege imposed on Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods, where clashes have left more than twenty people killed and injured.
According to initial reports, fighting erupted between government-affiliated factions and the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in the two neighborhoods and surrounding areas. Local sources confirmed that artillery and rocket fire struck residential zones, prompting waves of displacement as families sought safety away from the front lines.
In a statement published on its official website, the AANES demanded accountability for those responsible for “the attacks and violations in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh,” urging a return to dialogue and political solutions. The administration emphasized that democratic approaches guaranteeing the rights of all Syrians are essential to building a decentralized and inclusive Syria.
The statement expressed deep concern and condemnation of the siege imposed on the neighborhoods, noting that civilians continue to suffer from severe restrictions and repeated assaults. It stressed that such practices “only contribute to fragmenting national forces and clearly reveal the lack of seriousness by the Syrian government in its declared efforts to unify the Syrian people and build a democratic state where all citizens are equal in rights and duties without discrimination or exclusion.”
The AANES further warned that the continuation of this escalatory approach would have grave consequences across Syria, carrying risks of expanding violence and deepening divisions among communities. The administration reiterated its call for political dialogue as the only viable path to stability and coexistence.
