Syrian Interior Ministry denies rumors of attack on president
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Interior Ministry denied on Monday circulating claims that the country’s president and other senior officials were targeted in a security incident, calling the reports “false” and accompanied by forged statements attributed to state bodies.
Nour al-Din al-Baba, the ministry’s spokesperson, said, “Some platforms circulated false news alleging a security event targeting the Syrian president and a number of leading figures, accompanied by fabricated statements falsely attributed to official entities.” He added, “We categorically affirm the falsehood of these allegations in their entirety.” Al-Baba urged the public and media outlets “to exercise accuracy and responsibility, and not to source news except from accredited official sources.”
The ministry’s statement followed a wave of social media posts and messages that claimed a major security breach had occurred in Damascus. The Interior Ministry did not reference any specific platform or account but emphasized that the documents attached to the claims were counterfeit and that no such incident had taken place. The spokesperson did not announce arrests or legal measures related to the alleged fabrication but stressed the need to counter misinformation through verified channels.
In its closing note, the ministry called on citizens and media to rely on accredited sources for security-related information. No additional measures or public advisories were issued by the Interior Ministry at the time of publication.
