SDF reports two fighters wounded in drone attack east of Aleppo
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Tuesday that two of its fighters were injured in an explosion caused by a suicide drone in the countryside of Aleppo, northern Syria, during what it described as a humanitarian mission to assist wounded civilians.
In a statement published on its official website, the SDF said that “two of our fighters were injured with varying degrees of wounds this afternoon as a result of the explosion of a suicide drone belonging to factions affiliated with the Damascus government.” The statement added that the drone directly targeted the fighters “while they were carrying out their humanitarian duty to evacuate civilians injured by shelling carried out by those factions on populated villages and areas in the vicinity of Deir Hafer, east of Aleppo.”
According to the statement, the incident occurred as SDF personnel were responding to casualties from artillery fire that had struck residential areas near Deir Hafer, an area that has witnessed intermittent hostilities amid broader tensions across northern Syria.
The SDF described the targeting of medical evacuation teams and aid points as “a dangerous escalation and a violation of all international laws and norms.” The force said that “the Damascus government bears full responsibility for this escalation and its consequences, as well as for any direct threat to the security of the region and the lives of civilians.”
In its statement, the SDF stressed that it “reserves the legitimate right to respond by taking all necessary measures to defend its forces and areas, in accordance with the requirements of the situation,” without providing further details.
