Kurds in Aleppo condemns pro-gov’t factions for violating March 10 deal
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Kurdish Neighborhoods Council in Aleppo condemned on Wednesday the actions of armed factions affiliated with the Syrian transitional government, accusing them of violating the March 10 agreement and calling on the government to honor its commitments and hold those groups accountable.
In a statement, the Council said that some factions operating under the so-called Syrian Ministry of Defense have blocked roads between Aleppo and the regions of North and East Syria, prevented the entry of fuel, and imposed a siege on Kurdish neighborhoods.
The statement reported the erection of earth barriers and the deployment of military vehicles directed at the neighborhoods, as well as attacks targeting civilians.
“These actions constitute a clear violation of the March 10 agreement,” the Council said, urging the Syrian government to “abide by its obligations and hold accountable those factions responsible for blocking roads and targeting civilians.”
The Council warned that such behavior revives painful memories of the practices of the former Baathist regime, which it described as “chauvinistic and provocative.”
“We had hoped, after the fall of Assad’s rule and the end of the Baath regime, to build a unified homeland that embraces all Syrians in their diversity,” the statement concluded.
