South Korea launches $38M humanitarian aid projects in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – South Korea announced on Tuesday the launch of a new package of humanitarian aid projects worth $38 million to support Syria, in cooperation with UN agencies, during an official ceremony in the capital Damascus.
According to Syrian state media, the event was attended by South Korean representatives, UN officials, and several Syrian government officials, including the Minister of Health, the Minister of Higher Education, the Deputy Minister of Emergency Management and Disaster Response, the Director of Civil Defense, and the Foreign Ministry’s head of NGOs affairs.
The projects, aimed at supporting children and vulnerable families in Syria, will be carried out in partnership with four UN agencies. The allocation includes $15 million to UNICEF, $10 million to the UN Development Programme (UNDP), $10 million to the World Food Programme (WFP), and $3 million to the World Health Organization (WHO).
During the ceremony, representatives emphasized that the initiative reflects Seoul’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and international cooperation in Syria, particularly in sectors such as health, education, food security, and child protection.
South Korea has been a consistent donor to humanitarian efforts in Syria in recent years, working with international organizations to alleviate the impact of the prolonged conflict on civilians.
The new package comes amid continued needs for aid across the country, with millions of Syrians facing challenges related to displacement, economic hardship, and limited access to basic services.
