Armed assault on SDF patrol leaves four dead, two wounded

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Four fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) lost their lives and two others were wounded on Thursday in an armed attack targeting a security patrol in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the SDF in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that unidentified gunmen opened fire with automatic weapons on an SDF patrol while it was inspecting military points near the Euphrates River in the town of al-Bahra.

The source added that clashes broke out between the attackers and the patrol members before the assailants detonated an explosive device and fled the area.

According to the source, the attack resulted in the death of four SDF fighters, injuries to two others, and damage to patrol vehicles.

The source noted that the SDF dispatched military reinforcements to the town to secure the area and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the attack.

The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor continues to witness intermittent attacks carried out by suspected Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells. The SDF, with support from the Global Coalition, has conducted regular security operations in the region to curb these threats and maintain stability.
