Syria, Croatia discuss strengthening ties and reconstruction efforts
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani received On Wednesday Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman and his accompanying delegation in Damascus, marking a step toward renewed diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Speaking at a press conference following the meeting, al-Shibani described the Croatian visit as “the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations based on mutual respect.” He praised Croatia for its consistent support of the Syrian people since 2011, highlighting its condemnation of the practices of the former regime.
Al-Shibani added that with the lifting of international restrictions on Syria, efforts are now focused on building tangible partnerships with global partners. He emphasized that discussions with the Croatian minister were constructive, covering cooperation in various fields, including Syria’s ongoing reconstruction process.
“The relationship between Syria and Croatia will be multifaceted and advance significantly,” al-Shibani said.
Minister Radman expressed his pleasure at visiting Damascus during this critical period in Syria’s history, stating: “We express our full solidarity and empathy with the Syrian people for what they have endured during the years of war and the challenges they have faced. We fully understand the scale of these challenges.”
Radman also affirmed Croatia’s support for a comprehensive process aimed at achieving stability in Syria and welcomed the removal of U.S. and European sanctions as a necessary step for reconstruction. He wished Syria success in its post-war recovery, noting Croatia’s own experience in rebuilding after conflict.
