SDF arrests 5 ISIS cell members in southern Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Wednesday the arrest of five members of Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells during a security operation in the southern countryside of Raqqa, northern Syria.
In a statement, the SDF said the operation came in response to a recent suicide attack launched by an ISIS cell and foiled by its fighters. Together with the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), the SDF carried out a joint raid in the Kasrat area south of Raqqa aimed at dismantling ISIS cells.
According to the statement, the operation proceeded as planned, resulting in the arrest of five active members of ISIS cells.
The SDF added that the detainees had been preparing to launch attacks on SDF military points, target civilians and service institutions, and carry out assassinations and bombings.
During the raid, SDF units seized weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment from the arrested individuals.
