Netanyahu confirms Israeli military operation in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel carried out a military operation in Syria a few days ago, declining to provide details about the nature or location of the action.
Netanyahu made the announcement during a televised statement, in which he highlighted a series of military operations across the region. “During the last day, we assassinated one of Hamas’s leaders, and a few days ago we eliminated most of the Houthis’ government. In Lebanon, we are striking Hezbollah, and in Syria, we acted militarily a few days ago, and I will not go into details,” he said.
The Israeli military has not issued an official statement regarding the Syrian operation, and no Syrian government institutions have commented on the matter. Independent monitoring groups have also not released verified information on the reported action.
In recent months, Israel has intensified its operations inside Syrian territory, particularly in the south, where it has carried out airstrikes, ground incursions, and helicopter landings, as well as established temporary checkpoints and conducted searches. These operations are often framed by Israel as measures against Iranian-backed groups and allied factions operating in the region.
Since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict in 2011, Israel has frequently targeted military sites, weapons depots, and groups it considers a threat along its border. While Damascus has condemned such actions, they have become a recurrent feature of the conflict’s regional dimension.
No further details were provided by the Israeli government about the latest operation, and it remains unclear which part of Syria was affected. Local authorities in southern Syria have not reported significant developments on the ground in recent days.
Netanyahu’s statement comes amid heightened regional tensions, with simultaneous Israeli operations in Lebanon, Yemen, and against Hamas leaders.
