HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Arab tribal elders in northeastern Syria called on Thursday for speeding up the political and administrative integration between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the Syrian state during the “Unity of Communities” conference held in Hasakah. The conference emphasized national unity and rejected all forms of sectarian incitement and hatred.
Akram Mahshoush, advisor to the Al-Jabour tribe, stated that real guarantees for Syria’s unity come from popular and tribal harmony rather than using tribes as tools in external conflicts, referencing past turmoil in areas such as As-Suwayda. He highlighted recent understandings reached between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander General Mazloum Abdi as a foundation for moving towards lasting security and stability.
Mahshoush condemned sectarian incitement originating from government-held areas, stressing that no incitement comes from the north, which is under AANES and SDF administration. “We reject hate speech and will not respond in kind,” he said, underscoring the commitment of local communities to peaceful coexistence.
Similarly, Awaid Daham, a tribal elder from the Sharabin clan, called for fraternity, reconciliation, and the rejection of all inflammatory rhetoric. He praised the efforts of local leaders to prevent discord and maintain regional stability. Daham urged both the SDF and the Syrian government to expedite political and administrative integration, describing it as the practical solution to overcome ongoing crises and disputes.
The conference reflects continued efforts by diverse communities in northeastern Syria to promote coexistence, stability, and cooperation amid a complex political landscape. Since its establishment, the AANES has emphasized inclusive governance and local security, supported on the ground by the SDF, which continues counterterrorism and stabilization operations in the region.
