Iran likely to target Israel’s Negev facility – Iraqi analyst
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iraqi political analyst said on Sunday that there is a high likelihood Iran may retaliate by targeting Israel’s Negev Nuclear Research Center, suggesting the scenario is 80 percent probable.
Ibrahim al-Sarraj – Iraqi politician – told North Press that Iran could also strike U.S. military bases in the region, even if those installations are currently unoccupied.
Such an attack, he argued, would serve as a symbolic response to recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites — which Tehran insists had already been evacuated prior to the assault.
On the tenth day of the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had carried out “massive precision strikes” on three major Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
Following the attack, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported that the targeted sites had been previously evacuated, minimizing the material impact of the strikes.
According to al-Sarraj, the fact that Iran was able to directly strike Tel Aviv following the U.S. operation suggests that the core of Iran’s nuclear deterrence capabilities remains intact.
“This demonstrates Iran’s continued ability to project power and maintain strategic deterrence,” he said.
He added that the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure were a clear pressure tactic aimed at compelling Tehran to lower its negotiating demands and accept new terms in any future diplomatic talks.
