Trump travel ban expands, Syrians excluded from new restrictions
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday a new executive order expanding travel restrictions on several countries, citing national security concerns and the need to “protect the United States from terrorists.” Notably, Syrian nationals were excluded from the updated list of restricted countries.
The presidential proclamation imposes full travel bans on the following countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar (Burma), Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
In addition, partial travel restrictions have been placed on nationals from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
The revised policy marks a significant shift from earlier iterations of the travel ban, which had included Syria among the countries subject to full restrictions. While the exclusion of Syria in this latest announcement was not explained in detail, it represents a notable change in U.S. immigration policy under the Trump administration.
